SJO REUNION
Join us on October 09
Seattle Jazz Offering(SJO) began as an interactive Jazz organization dedicated to Seattle's rich jazz heritage. It was established to promote, enhance, stabilize and preserve jazz music by creating a positive environment for musicians to thrive and refine their natural talent and technique. SJO's mission was enhanced by acknowledging the musical vanguards of the past who forged the path and by creating a diverse and vibrant jazz community that embraced and supported the musicians. This monthly event occurred at Tula's Restaurant in Belltown for over 15 years.
The first performance was on March 7, 1999 and featured Hadley Caliman on Tenor Saxophone, Eric Vaughn on piano, Phil Sparks on bass and Larry Jones on drums with Reggie Goings on vocals. Hadley was a featured musician each month for 12 years until his passing in September, 2010. Over the years many accomplished musicians came by and shared their musical talent with the astute and appreciative jazz audience. In addition to the music, spoken word, tap and contemporary dancing was featured. In 2012, Earshot Jazz presented co-founders Paul Toliver and Reggie Goings with a Special Earshot award in recognition of Seattle Jazz Offering's long-standing commitment to Seattle's rich Jazz heritage.
On Sunday, October 9, 2022, we are planning to have a reunion to celebrate and remember all who made Seattle Jazz Offering's 'First Sunday' sessions so special. The event features Eric Verlinde, piano; Phil Sparks, bass; and Jamael Nance, drums. Some very special guests will make cameo appearances during the afternoon. Paul Toliver will preside as MC over the festivities.
